The Project
Passion Audio Player is a free, high-fidelity audio player for Microsoft Windows, created and maintained by George Boudouris. Born in 2002 as a personal passion project, it has grown over two decades into a full-featured player trusted by audiophiles and casual listeners alike — without ever showing an ad inside the application or charging a cent for purchasing it. After several windows versions it was about time to create and a linux version and so it was done. The future plans are to create multiple platform versions based on the same codebase and skin format.
The player emphasises clean, faithful audio reproduction, extensive format support, and a highly customisable experience through skins and plugins. It remains proudly freeware.
Project History
From a first release in 2002 to the Lazarus/FPC migration of 2015, the Ubuntu port, v5.0, and the codebase rework of 2026 — the full story of Passion Audio Player spans more than two decades of continuous freeware development.
The Developer
George Boudouris
Creator & Lead Developer — Athens, GreeceGeorge has been writing software since 1990, with a particular interest in audio, graphics, systems programming, and native Windows development. Passion Audio Player represents his longest-running project and his ongoing commitment to the freeware ideal — quality software, freely given. His favourite programming language is Turbo Pascal and later moved to Delphi and now Lazarus - freepascal
The first releases of the player were developed in Delphi but later the codebase was moved to Free Pascal using the Lazarus IDE, continuing a tradition of lean, dependency-light native code. Using an open source tool guarantees that the development will continue for a long time.
